Incubation.
Version 1.0
September 24th, 1997
Introduction
============
This guide contains general information and trouble-
shooting tips for 'Incubation: Time Is Running Out'
by Blue Byte Software Inc.
Minimum Configuration
=====================
Pentium 90
4X CD-ROM
16 megs of RAM
70 megs of hard drive space
2 meg video card (DirectX 5.0 compatible)
Windows 95 (does not work in DOS or Windows NT)
Recommended Configuration
=========================
Pentium 166 or higher
6X CD-ROM
32 megs of RAM
110 megs of hard drive space
Sound card (DirectX 5.0 compatible)
Most 3Dfx video cards
Minimum and Complete Install
============================
Although you can run the game decently with the minimum
70 meg installation, we highly recommend the 110 meg
installation. With the minimum install, the game spends
more time accessing the CD-ROM drive for data and audio
files. Because of this, you'll notice more delays when
playing. If you've done the minimum install and want
to go back to do the complete one, the best way to do
this is to first use 'unInstallShield' to delete. Then
go back and reinstall a fresh setup using the complete
install option.
*Note: even with the complete install, you'll have an
occasional short pause when audio files are being pulled
from the CD-ROM. Because of the huge size of these files,
we needed to place them on the CD.
Mplayer Internet Gaming
=======================
We've included the software to install and setup Mplayer
on your PC. We're currently working with them at this time
getting INCUBATION ready, and should have their software
ready for internet play by early-to-mid November 1997.
You can contact their web site for more information at:
http://www.mplayer.com
3Dfx Drivers
============
We've included the latest version of the 3Dfx drivers and
software. Go to the Windows Explorer and right-click on
your CD-ROM drive (usually D:\). Left-click on the first
choice, 'Explore' and look to the folders on the right.
Double-click on the '3Dfx' folder. You'll find a file named
'grtvgr.exe.' Double-click on the file to launch the
installation. Read the disclaimer, follow the instructions
and update your drivers. Afterwards you be asked to restart
your machine.
* Note: Depending on how you have the scan rate set with
your monitor, you may need to restart your machine a second
time. For further trouble-shooting and support, contact
the 3Dfx web site at:
http://www.3dfx.com
or by email at:

Demos and Previews
==================
We've also included three demos and an .avi video of our
next upcoming title. To access these, go to the 'Demos' folder
on the CD (use the Windows Explorer instructions from earlier
to find the folder if you're having problems). Here you'll find
four files: S2gold.exe, GN&M.avi, Xa_demo.exe, and addemo.exe.
Since installation for each varies a bit, please follow the
individual instructions below:

about the demo. Go back to your hard drive and go to the
C:\Bluebyte\extreme folder and double-click on 'setup.'
Then follow these instructions to complete the installation.

work with this demo.

'Unzip,' 'OK' wait until unzipped, and 'Close.' Go to the folder
where it was extracted (defaults to C:\Windows\Temp). Check out

SciTech Demo
============
In the root directory you'll find a shareware/trial version
of SciTech Display Doctor 5.3a. This is not a Blue Byte
product, and therefore we cannot offer any technical support
regarding this product. Tech Support from SciTech is available
to registered (or pre-registered) users at (916) 894-8400
Monday through Friday from 9:00 am - 6:00 pm (Pacific Standard
Time).
Hercules Stingray 128/3D Owners
===============================
For best results, users should download the new beta drivers
from Hercules. They can be found at their web site at:
http://www.hercules.com/support/drivers/stingray/s1283d/
You must start the game in the normal 'Start' mode (and not
'Start (3Dfx)') when playing any of the Network Game or
multi-player options. We're currently working on a patch to
resolve this, which will be available on our web site and
on the internet.
Other Hardware Issues
=====================
Certain models of the Ensoniq Sound Scape Elite sound card
may have problems with our game. You can contact Ensoniq's
web site at:
http://www.allelec.com/Ensoniq.htm
for new information or drivers as they become available.
ESS sound cards built onto the motherboard of some PCs
(Compaqs for example) may not work properly, you can
contact ESS's web site at:
http://www.esstech.com/techsupp/intro_t.htm
Or Compaq at:
http://www.compaq.com/athome/index.html
for further information.
Some Toshiba 8X EIDE CD-ROM drives may have trouble reading
the data files after installation. At this time we are
still researching the cause of the problem.
